The Importance of B vitamins for body builders



B12 - Cobalamin
-carbohydrate metabolism
-maintenance of nervous system tissue
-stimulation of muscles via nerves
            -contraction
            -coordination
            -growth of muscles

 B2- Riboflavin
-Glucose metabolism
-Oxidation of fatty acids
-The shuttling of hydrogen ions through the Krebs cycle

B3- Niacin
-involved in over 60 metabolic reactions regarding energy "fuel" 

B1- Thiamine 
-Required for protein metabolism and growth 
-involved in formation of hemoglobin 
(protein found in red blood cells that transports oxygen throughout the body)

B6- Pyridoxine
-Required for Protein metabolism & growth
-carbohydrate utilization
-the more protein you intake the more B6 you need.

  1. I don't see how people with musculature as in the picture you've chosen can move. The governor of CA, Schwarzenegger, looked similar to the photo when he was bodybuilding but I'm pretty certain that he used anabolic steroids.

I dont actually think the picture is real, Its been modified. its supposed to just be a joke. but I know there are body builders that abuse their use of steroids and thus instead of achieving maximal health like it was intended they are actually hurting thier bodies organs, skeletal system and muscles.

  3. Every once in a while on television they have bodybuilding shows. You should take a look sometime because I think the image that you've chosen portrays real people who have taken bodybuilding to the extreme. I don't know what the physical health risks are to someone who has overdeveloped their muscles to that extreme, but I certainly question their psychological health.

    I really enjoyed your post. I had no idea that there were so many functions of vitamin B for the muscles. I also agree with your comment above, body builder often are doing great damage to their organs, bones and muscles.
