B12 weight loss ?

Apparently B12 can assist in weight loss. According to an article on LiveStrong.com, "Supplement companies say B vitamins boost a person's metabolism, leading to improved weight management. According to the National Institutes of Health's Office of Dietary Supplements (NIHODS), B vitamins are also marketed as "energy boosters," aimed at enhancing athletic performance and physical exercise capabilities."
-studies have been done however by some nutritionist and have claimed that B12 does not possess these amazing weight loss abilites.
- the only known facts about B12 are these: B vitamins contribute to red blood cell formation, hormone function and neurological functions. possibly heart functions & cognitive functions also.
- deficient of B vitamins and these are the effects: irritability, depression, confusion, mouth sores and inflammation of the tongue.
its silly to think that a mere vitamin or in other words "pill" could change our whole bodies physique. so loose weight the natural way and eat healthy, exercise and be happy. cheers!

contradicting ideals

According to BBC NEWS, in a article they claim B12 is linked to developing Alzheimer's disease. While they did not given reasons to how or if it is even a solid idea the way they worded their article makes it very deceiving. According to Natural News.com the mainstream media manipulates words to make it seem like another way. - I don't understand fully why they would purposefully do that to people but I know that it happens.

so moral of the story is to do your research! on both sides so you can make a wise decision on what to believe in once you have all the facts.

I was in CVS the other day and was looking down the vitamin isle and came across 2 bottles one was Equalized B-complex and the other Stress-B complex.

Stress B complex contains thisStress B-Complex supplement is a combination of 8 essential B vitamins: thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, Vitamin B-6, folic acid, Vitamin B-12, biotin, and pantothenic acid, along with Vitamin C and zinc.

the B-shots

I came across a interesting site that I guess would make sense, yet seems really bizarre and a little frightening its called b12-shot.com the site actually sells needles and  vitamin injections of B-complex, B1, B6, B9, and B12. each costing a range between 8.99-30.00 $ what I think is amusing about this is that if a person takes too much of a vitamin substance it either becomes discarded through urine or possible toxicity to your body. This site totally seems unreal, I guess because I've never heard of vitamin inject ables, I don't understand under what circumstances needles would be first choice over simply eating B-vitamin containing foods. what a crazy world.

B6 deficiency

Vitamin B6 Deficiency

The amount of protein you eat determines your dietary requirement for this vitamin, because it functions in protein metabolism. The RDA for pyridoxine is 1.3 micrograms for both men and women, increasing to 1.7 mcg for those over 50 years of age. Pregnant and nursing women require more. Children younger than ten years of age require slightly less.
Children need less vitamin B6 than adults, but most people just don't get enough.

Children need less vitamin B6 than adults, but most people just don't get enough.
Even with the large amount of protein Americans eat, the RDAs for pyridoxine are sufficient for most people. The problem is that many people are not even meeting the RDA.

The 1980 Nationwide Food Consumption Survey showed that pyridoxine intake was below 70 percent of the RDA in half of the people surveyed. A 1990 survey showed that intake of the vitamin was still inadequate for most men and women. Other studies show reduced blood levels of pyridoxine in some pregnant women, elderly adults, alcohol abusers, and people with disorders such as kidney disease and Down syndrome.

Some prescription medications, including birth control pills, steroids, and the antibiotics isoniazid and penicillamine, can increase the need for pyridoxine. If you take one of these medicines, ask your health care practitioner about taking a pyridoxine supplement.

If you don't get enough vitamin B6, there are supplements out there -- just be carefult not to overdo it.link

B6 and B12 introduction

           Vitamin B6
  • functions:  protein and amino acid synthesis used by bodybuilders, as well as, for the treatment of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), carpal tunnel syndrome, schizophrenia, childhood autism,  and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with variable results.
  • about: required for the synthesis of the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine and for myelin formation.
  • found in such foods: cereal grains, legumes, vegetables (carrots, spinach, peas), potatoes, milk, cheese, eggs, fish, liver, meat, and flour.
  • deficiency in adults mostly affects the peripheral nerves, skin, mucous membranes, and the blood cell system. In children, the central nervous system (CNS) is also affected. Deficiency can occur in people with uremia, alcoholism, cirrhosis, hyperthyroidism, malabsorption syndromes, congestive heart failure, and in those taking certain medications.
  • RDA  : Males (19-50 years) 1.3 milligrams; males (51 years and older) 1.7 milligrams; females (19-50 years) 1.3 milligrams; females (51 years and older) 1.5 milligrams. Some researchers think the RDA for women 19-50 years should be increased to 1.5-1.7 milligrams per day. Pregnant women, 1.9 milligrams; and lactating women, 2 milligrams.
  • Max RDA  : Adults, pregnant, and lactating women (over 18 years) 100 milligrams. A doctor and pharmacist should be consulted for dosing in other conditions.
          Vitamin B12
  • functions:helps maintain healthy nerve cells and red blood cells and is also needed to make DNA, the genetic material in all cells
  • about: It is bound to the protein in food. Hydrochloric acid in the stomach releases B12 from protein during digestion. Once released, B12 combines with a substance called intrinsic factor (IF) before it is absorbed into the bloodstream. essential water-soluble vitamin that is commonly found in a variety of foods.
  • found in such foods:fish, shellfish, meat, and dairy products
  • deficiency: Studies have shown that a deficiency of vitamin B12 can lead to abnormal neurologic and psychiatric symptoms. These symptoms may include: ataxia (shaky movements and unsteady gait), muscle weakness, spasticity, incontinence, hypotension (low blood pressure), vision problems, dementia, psychoses, and mood disturbances. Researchers report that these symptoms may occur when vitamin B12 levels are just slightly lower than normal and are considerably above the levels normally associated with anemia. People at risk for vitamin B12 deficiency include strict vegetarians, elderly people, breastfed infants, and people with increased vitamin B12 requirements associated with pregnancy, thyrotoxicosis, hemolytic anemia, hemorrhage, malignancy, liver or kidney disease. Administering vitamin B12 orally, intramuscularly, or intranasally is effective for preventing and treating dietary vitamin B12 deficiency.
  • RDA: adults men - 2.4 mcg, female- 2.4 mcg.  pregnant women 2.6 mcg and lactation 2.8 mcg
